Michelle and I were originally planning on making our own harnesses but since we live a country apart, have very limited time together, and we have several costumes to do, we decided to buy the harnesses instead.

We bought from CosplayWho, and I was a little wary, but overall I’m happy with the results. I plan on doing a review later (after I get the whole rig on and wear it around a little bit,) but there are some initial thoughts below the cut.

  • The quality feels really nice, and it has that nice leathery smell
  • The straps and pieces are soft and pleasant to the touch
  • Everything feels pretty sturdy… none of the stitching seems shoddy, and the buckles feel pretty strong (I’ve seen reviews of other harnesses where the buckles/straps apparently were bad and snapped or something…?)
  • On the site the straps look black, but they’re a nice, chocolatey brown in person
  • The site has a “guide” on putting this on, but it could really do with more detail and different angles (I might post the gifs of me struggling to figure this thing out, we’ll see.) As it is, you really should have a buddy to help, if only to hold straps out of the way.
  • The belt is more brown in person than the gray on the site, but it’s still definitely not as nice a brown as the straps, and I’m not a big fan
  • The elastic that goes around from the calf to the bottom of your foot is twisted weirdly, and I can’t figure out how to fix it. It’s not something you’d know or be able to see, even without the boots, but I’ll know

As you can probably see, the straps leave a lot of room for different sizes. I’m 5’1” and weigh maybe 90 lbs. and I can get the leg straps on pretty tight and still have some extra holes left, though there’s a LOT of extra belt that then flops around and needs to be dealt with. I’m a little worried that the buckle at the top of the chest piece won’t be tight enough for me, but I haven’t been able to get everything on, so I can’t fully test it — I’m cautiously optimistic, though.

The main problem with size are the vertical straps that go down from the shoulders and connect to the waist; they’re too long on me and, due to the way they’re built/connect, I’m not sure of a good way to shorten them so they don’t sag outwards.
